Your guide will pick you up early in the morning to begin this chapter of your Medellin Food Tour with a visit to the Minorista Market, one of the city’s most important heritage sites.
To truly understand a culture, you must walk through its markets and observe their daily rhythm. This is the philosophy of our host, Chef Meli Ospina, who created this experience 17 years ago to show both locals and visitors the value of exploring the Minorista. She will lead us through its maze‑like corridors, rich in history and tradition, sharing stories from Colombia’s diverse regions, from the Pacific to the Amazon.
This part of the tour reveals Colombia’s culinary identity through its flavours, tools, and artisanal traditions, some still alive, others slowly disappearing as fewer people continue these ancestral practices.
We’ll start the morning with a traditional Colombian breakfast of arepa paisa, eggs seasoned with local flavours, calentado, and a hot drink of your choice. Afterwards, we’ll taste a wide variety of fruits from across the country, along with heritage sweets and traditional drinks known for their medicinal properties.
This experience offers a deeper understanding of Colombia’s food culture and honours the farmers and artisans whose work sustains it. Throughout the visit, we’ll learn to recognise local ingredients and explore mindful, low‑waste consumption practices.
At the end of the tour, we’ll return to the hotel, and you’ll have the afternoon free to explore the city.
