The guide will pick you up early in the morning to visit the José María Villa Minorista Market. This experience will take you through one of the city’s heritage sites: the Minorista Market.
To truly understand a culture, one must immerse themselves in its local markets and observe their everyday rhythm. This is the belief of our host, Chef Meli Ospina, who designed this tour 17 years ago to teach both locals and visitors the importance of exploring this market. She will guide us through its maze-like corridors, rich in cultural heritage, sharing along the way the traditions of Colombia’s diverse regions from the Pacific to the Amazon.n.
This is a cultural journey narrated through the flavours, tools, artisanal practices and ingredients that form the soul of Colombia. Some of these elements still endure, but many are slowly fading, as there is no one left to carry on the tradition. These are forms of knowledge passed down orally, now at risk of being lost along with the ancestral trades and tasks that have given identity to our communities for generations.
We’ll start the day with a traditional Colombian breakfast, featuring arepa paisa (a cornmeal flatbread typical of the Antioquia region), eggs cooked with local seasonings, calentado (a hearty dish of reheated rice and beans), and a hot beverage of your choice.
We’ll then begin sampling a wide variety of fruits from across the country, along with heritage sweets and traditional drinks known for their medicinal properties.
This experience is a journey through Colombia’s rich culinary landscape an opportunity to honour the work of rural farmers and artisans whose dedication brings food to our tables. Throughout the tour, we’ll learn to identify local ingredients and explore mindful consumption practices that support zero waste.
At the end of the tour, we will return to the hotel, and you’ll have the afternoon free to explore the city.
