The Gold Museum in Bogotá houses the world’s largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold artefacts, as well as other cultural treasures from the indigenous societies that once inhabited present-day Colombia. The collection began with a single piece, the Poporo Quimbaya, and has since grown to include over 55,000 objects, each showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of these ancient civilisations.

Among the museum’s highlights is the famous Muisca Raft, a detailed depiction of the legendary El Dorado ceremony, along with exquisite jewellery and ceremonial objects. The museum provides a fascinating glimpse into the spiritual and cultural importance of gold in pre-Hispanic societies, revealing how these objects were not only symbols of wealth but also powerful tools in rituals, mythology, and daily life.

Play Tejo - Colombia's national ancestral sport

Tejo, Colombia’s national ancestral sport, holds a cherished place in the country’s culture, even alongside the nation’s love for soccer.

This ancient game, rooted in indigenous traditions, challenges players to throw metal discs, called tejos, at clay targets filled with gunpowder. The goal is to strike the targets and make them explode, combining skill, strategy, and spirited competition.

After playing, participants often enjoy chicha, a traditional fermented maize drink that has been savoured in Colombia for centuries. This flavorful beverage adds an authentic cultural touch to the Tejo experience, offering a true taste of Colombia’s rich heritage.

Departure Time: 1 pm

After picking you up from your hotel in Bogotá, we’ll explore some of the most iconic sites in the city’s historic centre. Our tour begins at the Gold Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold artefacts, offering a fascinating glimpse into Colombia’s indigenous heritage. Next, we’ll visit the Botero Museum, where you can admire the whimsical and iconic works of Fernando Botero, Colombia’s most celebrated painter and sculptor.

As we wander through the historic neighbourhood of La Candelaria, you’ll discover its rich architectural diversity, charming cobblestone streets, and historic plazas such as Plaza Bolívar and Chorro de Quevedo. Along the way, your guide will share stories of colonial history, indigenous rituals, and hidden architectural gems tucked into the heart of the city.

To conclude the day, we’ll enjoy an exciting game of tejo, Colombia’s national sport, originally created by the Muisca people as a ritual offering to the gods. While playing, you’ll sample traditional snacks like empanadas and taste indigenous drinks such as chicha, fully immersing yourself in local culture.
