Admire the spectacular Valle de Cocora and coffee region landscape

This fertile region, also called the Coffee Triangle, consists of three Colombian departments: Caldas, Risaralda and Quindio. It is located in the heart of the Andes where the majority of the famous Colombian coffee is produced. The coffee region’s landscape was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its astonishing landscaped adorned by mountains, coffee plantations and valleys.

One of the most beautiful places in this region of Colombia is Valle de Cocora, a breathtaking valley within the Andean cloud forest, renowned for its towering wax palm, the national tree of Colombia. Hiking through the valley offers visitors stunning views and encounters with diverse wildlife.

Learn about the coffee cultivation process

Colombia is famous for its coffee, so what better place to learn everything there is to know about coffee than in Colombia! During this tour, you will see each step of the coffee cultivation process – from understanding how to identify ripe coffee cherries and harvesting them, to pulping, drying and brewing the beans.

Colombia also produces a lot of chocolate. During this tour, you will visit a cocoa farm to gain fascinating insight into cocoa cultivation and harvesting. You will learn about the meticulous process of harvesting, fermenting, and drying cacao beans and discover how the region’s climate influences both cocoa and coffee.

The tour also includes a hands-on experience crafting chocolate and sampling cacao. This visit highlights the region’s agricultural diversity and the deep-rooted traditions behind Colombia’s rich culinary heritage.

Salento, known for its vibrant streets and proximity to Valle de Cocora, offers visitors a blend of traditional coffee culture and stunning natural beauty. The town’s lively plazas and artisan shops are perfect for exploring local crafts and cuisine. Filandia, often less crowded, is also a beautiful, well-preserved colonial town with interesting panoramic viewpoints.

DAY 1 Travel to Colombia's Coffee Region. Coffee Plantation Tour

Fly to one of the main cities in the coffee region, either Pereira or Armenia. Upon arrival in Pereira, your tour guide will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to the hotel, where you will have some time for lunch before starting the coffee experience tour in the afternoon.

We will visit a coffee plantation to learn about the coffee-making process, from planting and hand-picking ripe cherries to drying beans under the sun. You will also have a tasting session, during which you will experience the bold, aromatic flavours of Colombian coffee in action.

Visiting a coffee farm in Colombia's coffee region is an incredibly rich sensory experience. You will learn from the experts how to appreciate an exceptional cup of coffee while also learning about the tradition and passion passed down through generations. This coffee experience highlights the coffee's cultural significance and the dedication behind every cup.

Note: As domestic flights are not included, please book a flight arriving before 11 am in Pereira or Armenia.

DAY 2 Day trip to Filandia, Valle de Cocora and Salento

Today, we will visit the Valle de Cocora (Cocora Valley) Natural Park, Salento, and Filandia. Our tour will begin in the traditional town of Filandia, where we will cross its colonial streets and visit the Quindío viewpoint. We will also stop at a wickerwork workshop to discover the art of crafting with natural fibres. Skilled artisans demonstrate techniques passed down through generations, weaving intricate baskets, furniture, and decor.

After our visit to Filandia, we'll journey to the cloud forest at Valle de Cocora, a place of immense cultural and historical significance. This valley, home to the famous and unique palmas de cera (wax palms), is a prime example of the amazing diversity of fauna and flora found in Colombia's Coffee Region. As we trek, we'll hear stories about this amazing place and its meaning for the native tribes that inhabited the area before the Europeans arrived.

Then, we will go to Salento, another traditional and picturesque Paisa town. The houses' colours and colonial architecture blend with the region's natural beauty and the smell of freshly roasted coffee. Salento is a perfect place for a gentle stroll or for enjoying a delicious cup of Colombian coffee. At the end of the tour, we will go back to the hotel.

DAY 3 Visit a Cacao Farm. Transfer to the airport

In the morning, we will visit a local cacao farm to learn about the entire process, from planting and nurturing cacao trees to harvesting the ripe pods. You’ll learn about the delicate art of fermentation and drying, which is crucial to developing the bean's complex flavours.

During this experience, you will participate in a hands-on demonstration of how cacao is transformed into chocolate. You can taste fresh cacao pulp straight from the pod, experience the grinding of beans into a paste, and sample artisanal chocolate made on-site. This immersive experience will connect you to the rich agricultural heritage of Colombia’s Coffee Region, where both coffee and cacao flourish.

At the end of this visit, we will transfer you to the airport in Pereira or Armenia.

Hacienda Combia

Set in a colourful historic farmhouse from 1887, Hacienda Combia offers a serene retreat in the middle of the spectacular coffee region’s landscapes. This charming hacienda offers cosy rooms, warm hospitality, and an immersive coffee culture experience. It also has free Wi-Fi and panoramic views of the landscape from the outdoor pool.

It is situated just outside of Calarcá. Guests can relax in the sauna and hydro massage tub, or lounge at the sun terrace on the large deck chairs.
