Guasca’s Private Nature Reserves

Located in the Eastern Andes of Colombia, just two hours from Bogotá, this private nature reserve is nestled in the municipality of Guasca. Spanning more than 50 hectares, the reserve is dedicated to the conservation of the páramo ecosystem, a unique high-altitude environment that is home to an impressive variety of Andean birds.

This spectacular setting offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching near Bogotá and bird photography, with páramo and cloud forest habitats attracting a remarkable diversity of species. Among the highlights are the Black Inca (Coeligena helianthea), Velvet-purple Coronet and many other colourful and specialised Andean birds.

Target species: Speckle-faced Parrot, Andean Teal, Lazuline Sabrewing, Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture, Boyacá Antpitta, Black-billed Mountain-Toucan, Andean Potoo, Brown-breasted Parakeet and Muisca Antpitta.

Guasca Birdwatching Tour: Páramo, Cloud Forest & Andean Birds
We will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel in Bogotá and travel to two private nature reserves in the municipality of Guasca, dedicated to the conservation of the natural páramo ecosystem and forming part of the buffer zone of Chingaza National Natural Park. Located just around two hours from Bogotá, this spectacular Andean landscape offers an exceptional setting for a birdwatching tour from Bogotá.
With a humid high-Andean climate, an average temperature of 13.2°C and elevations ranging from approximately 2,840 to 2,963 metres above sea level, the reserves are home to a remarkable variety of Andean birds of Colombia. We will explore a combination of páramo and cloud forest habitats, looking for hummingbirds, Andean Teal, Black-billed Toucan, Andean Potoo, Andean Tapaculo, tanagers, Rufous Antpitta and the highly sought-after Muisca Antpitta (Grallaria rufula), among many other species.
This Guasca birdwatching tour is ideal for both birdwatchers and photography enthusiasts. Accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide and our expert birding guide, you will have excellent opportunities for bird photography in Colombia, capturing the unique species and landscapes of this high-Andean ecosystem.
The experience includes breakfast and lunch, allowing you to enjoy a full day immersed in nature while discovering the incredible biodiversity of the Colombian Andes.
