Discover Bogota and Beyond: A Cultural Journey

Join us for a meaningful three-day trip that takes you deep into the heart of Bogotá and its countryside, focusing on community-based tourism and authentic local connections. If you’re visiting Bogotá and want to truly experience the city, while being surprised by its culture, communities, and countryside, this tour is the perfect tour for you.

You will start with a guided walking tour of Bogotá’s historic center, where you’ll explore the city’s colonial past and cultural evolution. Next, you will enjoy an incredible experience playing the traditional game of "tejo." On the second day, you’ll leave the city behind to visit a locally-run coffee farm in the nearby town of Choachí. There, you’ll spend the entire day with local farmers picking coffee, learning about the entire process from bean to cup, and sharing a traditional Colombian meal. In the afternoon, participate in an interactive cooking class led by members of the local community, where you’ll learn to make authentic Colombian pastries. On the final day, immerse yourself in the urban culture of the Egipto neighborhood, where local hosts and artists will welcome you into their world through personal stories, community initiatives, and vibrant street art.

La Candelaria is the oldest and most historic part of Bogotá. The streets are lined with colorful colonial-style houses, many of which now house museums, galleries, cafés, and cultural centers. The main square, Plaza Bolívar, is home to some of the country's most important government buildings.

This museum is dedicated to Fernando Botero, Colombia’s most famous painter and sculptor, known worldwide for his signature style of exaggerated, voluminous figures that explore political, social, and cultural themes with irony and humour. The museum was created after Botero generously donated his personal collection of artwork to Bogotá in 2004, making it one of the city’s most important cultural spaces.

In addition to Botero’s own iconic works, the museum features pieces by renowned artists such as Picasso, Chagall, Renoir, Monet, and Pissarro, offering a remarkable blend of Colombian and international art.

Gold Museum

On display at the Gold Museum is the largest collection of gold pieces as well as other artefacts from the pre-Hispanic societies who live in the land today known as Colombia. The gold collection started with one single piece, the Poporo Quimbaya. Today, more than 55,000 pieces are in the exhibition.

One of the highlights of the museum is the famous Muisca Raft, which depicts the ancient El Dorado ceremony, along with intricate jewelry and ceremonial objects. The museum provides a deep insight into the spiritual and cultural significance of gold in pre-Hispanic societies.

Colombia's national ancestral sport, Tejo, holds a special place in the hearts of its people, even amidst the widespread passion for soccer. This ancient game, rooted in indigenous traditions, involves players throwing metal discs called tejos at clay targets filled with gunpowder. The objective is to hit the targets, causing them to explode, which combines precision, strategy, and lively competition.

DAY 1 Historic City Tour in Bogota & Tejo Experience

Your adventure begins at the Gold Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts. Here, you will uncover the intricate artistry and historical significance of Colombia’s ancient goldwork.

Next, visit the Botero Museum to experience the unique charm of Fernando Botero’s art. His distinctively plump figures and playful, provocative approach to painting and sculpture are sure to captivate and entertain, even if you are not a traditional art enthusiast. As you stroll through the historic neighborhood of La Candelaria, you will discover hidden architectural gems in the heart of the city. Conclude your day with an exciting game of tejo, Colombia’s national sport, that perfectly wraps up your immersion in local culture. Invented by the Muisca people, tejo has been passed down through generations and was originally played as a ritual offering to the gods. Today, it remains a lively tradition that blends ancestral roots with modern-day fun.

DAY 2 Coffee farm and gastronomic experience

We’ll head to the charming town of Choachí, located about 90 minutes from Bogotá, where you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in an authentic Colombian coffee experience. The highlight of this trip will be a hands-on coffee tour that engages all five senses. As you move through a series of interactive stations, you'll explore captivating aromas, rich textures, and complex flavors that together tell the story of Colombian coffee.

Next, We will visit a local farm to participate in an amasijos cooking class. Here, you’ll learn to prepare these traditional Colombian baked goods using local ingredients, all while sharing the experience with rural women who have preserved these culinary traditions for generations. At the end of this incredible experience in the Choachí community, we’ll head back to Bogotá.

DAY 3 Tour in Egipto neighborhood : Invisible borders

We will pick you up from your hotel to begin our day tour of the Egipto neighborhood. Once we arrive, our local hosts will share their cultural traditions and routines, along with stories about the political, social, and economic challenges and triumphs faced by the community. We will also learn how Colombia's complex history has influenced daily life here and explore the “invisible borders” that designate certain areas as off-limits.

As we stroll through the neighborhood streets, our hosts will share personal stories—some humorous and others reflecting the hardships experienced by residents. Along the way, you will enjoy stunning panoramic views of Bogotá. We will have a traditional "Colombian onces," which is a light snack that typically includes an arepa and a hot drink or juice made from local fruit, served at a host’s home. Finally, we will return to the starting point with our guide and community hosts. This will conclude the tour, and we will drop you off at your hotel.

Blown Away

I'll write 2 reviews. First the quick one; every detail was taken care of, the destinations are world class, communication was excellent. I would give them 6 out of 5 if I could.

The guide UC booked for us was exceptional. He knew his stuff, was very good with e-bird, he was an intersting guy and an overall good bean. Our tour actually started in Barranquilla - we were met at the airport, taken to the finest hotel in town. The next day we were taken on a city tour. I didn't know much about the city so I was very pleasantly by how much I liked it. The carnival museum is fabulous, we really enjoyed the boardwalk around a lagoon.

Great to work with!

Uncover Colombia was fantastic to work with! We had a 12 day itinerary and everything went very well. The agency reps were very flexible before and during the trip even when we requested last minute changes. They always did their best to accommodate us. Great tour of Salt Cathedral

Myself and my wife did a private tour with Juan Carlos to the Salt Cathedral. The tour and Juan Carlos were both great. He had an intimate knowledge of the Salt Cathedral having worked there previously, and also knew a lot about the nearby town and local area.
