Detailed Itinerary
Once inside Egipto, our hosts will highlight some of the cultural traditions and routines practiced in the community. We will also hear about the political, social and economic struggles and triumphs locals have encountered over the years while living in the community. We will learn how the country’s challenging past has directly impacted locals. As we go deeper into the neighbourhood, we will learn more about which areas are off-limits to us and certain locals because of so-called “invisible borders.”
Another highlight of this tour is a visit to one of the oldest local markets in Bogota. There, we will have the chance to learn about different Colombian fruits. This is your chance to try some of the many exotic and delicious fruits Colombia is famous for.
We will continue to visit some of the neighbourhood streets while our hosts tell us different stories about their past and life in Egipto. Some of these stories are funny and some of them paint a rough picture of the hard times these people faced while living in this community. Our journey through this neighbourhood will be accompanied by gorgeous bird’s-eye-views of Bogota as well as hip-hop performances from our hosts.
For lunch, we will head to a host’s home where we will eat a traditional Colombian soup called Sancocho. This delicious dish is made with chicken, potatoes, plantains, corn and cooked over an open fire. You will also get a side of rice and fresh juice from a local Colombian fruit. (Please inform us of any dietary restrictions before the tour so we can provide you with an alternative meal.)
Once lunch is over and you have had time to take pictures of the pretty views and ask our hosts questions, we will return to the starting point of the tour with the guide and community hosts. This will be the end of the tour.
