DAY 1 Arrive in Bogota

Arrive at any time. We will pick you up at the airport and drive you to your hotel in Bogota. Depending on the traffic, the drive from the airport takes around 30-45 minutes.

Bogotá, the largest city in Colombia, is located in the Andes at 2,640 meters above sea level, and due to this high altitude, its weather is like spring year-round, with chilly mornings and warm afternoons.

This cosmopolitan city uniquely blends colonial architecture and modern skyscrapers, offering an interesting variety of cultural activities like museums,  art galleries, and theatres. Bogotá is also home to various natural areas that provide great opportunities for birding, hiking, and outdoor adventures, making it a perfect destination for the adventurous traveller.

Overnight: Bogota
Meal Plan: None

DAY 2 Discover Hummingbirds, Rich Bird Diversity at La Florida & Botanical Garden

To start our Bogotá birdwatching experience, early in the morning we will visit La Florida Regional Park. La Florida is a wetland in the western area of Bogota, where you will have the opportunity to see some of the special endemic bird species found in this area, such as the Bogotá Rail (Rallus semiplumbeus), Apolinar's Wren (Cistothorus apolinari apolinari) and Noble Snipe (Gallinago Nobilis).

Then, we will travel to the Botanical Garden Jose Celestino Mutis. Founded in 1955, green oasis within Bogotá and an excellent location for urban birdwatching. Founded in 1955, the garden represents Colombia’s remarkable ecological diversity, with vegetation and habitats inspired by different regions of the country.

This variety makes the Botanical Garden a productive birding site for both resident and migratory species. Depending on the season and conditions, we may look for species such as Rufous-browed Conebill, White-tailed Kite, Yellow-backed Oriole, Rusty Flowerpiercer, and Short-eared Owl, among others.

This combination of wetland and botanical garden habitats makes the day a rewarding introduction to birding in Bogotá and the diversity of birds found around the Colombian capital.

After the birding activities, we return to the hotel to relax.

Overnight: Bogota
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 3 Fute Reserve, Discover the Endemic Golden-bellied Starfrontlet

Today we leave the city behind for a birdwatching tour from Bogotá to Fute Nature Reserve, approximately 1.5 hours from the capital in the municipality of Bojacá. Today we leave Bogotá behind for a birdwatching tour to Fute Nature Reserve, approximately 1.5 hours from the capital, in Bojacá.

Located at 2,600 metres above sea level, Fute protects one of the last well-preserved remnants of cloud forest near Bogotá, including magnificent centuries-old oak trees. Our day begins very early in the morning, when bird activity is at its peak, followed by a short 200-metre uphill walk to reach the reserve.

Within the native forest, a beautiful flower garden and hummingbird feeders provide excellent opportunities for close observation and bird photography.

The reserve’s main hummingbird target is the endemic Golden-bellied Starfrontlet, which can be observed regularly throughout the year, along with up to 17 other hummingbird species. Possible sightings include Lesser Violetear, Sparkling Violetear, Tourmaline Sunangel, Long-tailed Sylph, Collared Inca, Mountain Velvetbreast and Booted Racket-tail.

The surrounding cloud forest also offers the chance to spot other Andean birds, with the Moustached Brushfinch being one of the key endemic targets of the forest.

Other possible species include Montane Woodcreeper and Streaked Xenops, among a variety of native forest birds.

We will explore the accessible trails at a relaxed pace, enjoying the rich birdlife, ancient oaks and peaceful Andean landscapes. After the birdwatching experience, we will have lunch on our way back to Bogotá, followed by some time to relax and rest at the hotel.

Overnight: Bogota
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 4 Andean Condor, Iconic Hummingbirds & Airport Transfer

We begin our final day early with a journey to the Chingaza region, approximately two hours from Bogotá. This spectacular area of the Eastern Andes is renowned for its páramo, cloud forests, wetlands, and high-altitude landscapes, making it an exceptional destination for birdwatching in Colombia.

Chingaza is home to an impressive diversity of flora and fauna. Its iconic frailejones dominate the páramo landscape, while the surrounding ecosystems provide habitat for species such as Andean condors, white-tailed deer, spectacled bears, and a remarkable variety of high-altitude birds.

We will spend approximately four hours exploring the park and surrounding areas, looking for Andean birds and high-altitude species, including the Silvery-throated Spinetail and a selection of spectacular hummingbirds.

Depending on local conditions and bird activity, potential sightings may include Coppery-bellied Puffleg, Glowing Puffleg, Longuemare’s Sunangel, Bronze-tailed Thornbill, Mountain Velvetbreast, Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Tyrian Metaltail, Great Sapphirewing, and many more.

We will then continue to a hummingbird observatory in La Calera, a popular stop for hummingbird watching near Bogotá. The garden and feeders attract more than 20 hummingbird species, creating excellent opportunities for close observation and bird photography.

Among the possible highlights are the spectacular Long-tailed Sylph, Sword-billed Hummingbird, and Andean Emerald.

After enjoying the hummingbirds and a final Colombian birding experience, we will have lunch before returning to Bogotá for your transfer to the airport.

Accommodation

Colombian holiday experts

Nidia at Uncover Colombia organised a fabulous 19 day holiday across 5 locations in Colombia for my family. She was wonderful to deal with and really listened to our requests. Ana took over once we were on the holiday and made changes immediately where things weren’t quite as we’d all expected. We all had the best holiday ever. Thank you

The Pure Essence of Cartagena

We did the La Boquilla Fishing Village and African Drum Workshop. Sofia and Juan picked us up from our hotel and we took a drive to La Boquilla. We rode the canoes through the mangroves and learned to fish with a net and set crab traps with Señor Juan.  We then went to the drum workshop and worked with some amazingly talented young people who introduced various musical styles and different types of drums. We played and danced and they truly made us feel like we were part of the family. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in diving into the culture of Cartagena, and spending time face to face with the guardians of their craft and environment.

Bespoke tour of the highlights of Colombia with a focus on nature

Uncover Colombia put together an itinerary for us based on our love of nature, scenery, and hiking, and our desire to see some of the best the country has to offer. We loved their suggestions and we have felt looked after every step of the way - hotel bookings, transfers, internal flights, guides...

Amazing

Beatriz was a wonderful tour guide for visiting Guatape city from Medellin. She went out of her way to help me find shoes before we officially started our tour because my shoes got ruined in the rain the day before and I had nothing proper to wear. She has a clear love for the city she grew up in and that personal connection to it made the tour and information she shared more genuine and meaningful.

Colombia travel

We traveled three weeks across Colombia – from Bogotá, Villa de Leyva, Barichara, Medellín, the Pacific coast of Nuquí, the Coffee Region, Tayrona National Park, and finally Cartagena. In one word: exceptionally well organized. Excellent guides, seamless transfers, and an organization where everything worked exactly as planned.

– Damjan, December 2025

What about it? Look no further!

We have travelled to just under 80 countries around the world, often on our own, sometimes, when the country had some problems, relying on an agency; something we decided to do for Colombia as well. I must say that UncoverColombia is absolutely among the best tour operators I have ever met. The organization is immaculate, precise and very accurate...

– Cinzia and Luca, August 2025

A professional tour operator

Uncover Colombia did a great job in arranging accommodation, transport which included 4 domestic flights and meals. Most importantly, they have assigned tourist guides who are professional, friendly and passionate. They are sometimes funny and always helpful.

Blown Away

Every detail was taken care of, the destinations are world class, communication was excellent. I would give them 6 out of 5 if I could. The guide UC booked for us was exceptional. He knew his stuff, was very good with e-bird, he was an interesting guy and an overall good bean. Our tour actually started in Barranquilla...

– Derek, April 2025

Tour of Medellin and local villages.

Sol, our tour guide, was amazing. We did a three day tour of Medellin and local villages nearby. Sol shared her vast knowledge of the political and social recent history of the region. She led the tour at our pace. She was lovely to be with. The driver was very cautious. It was a great experience.

– Lynn, February 2025

Great to work with!

Uncover Colombia was fantastic to work with! We had a 12 day itinerary and everything went very well. The agency reps were very flexible before and during the trip even when we requested last minute changes. They always did their best to accommodate us. The assigned contact person during the trip was always reachable and responsive...

Great organization - even at short notice!

My girlfriend and I wanted to visit Colombia, but were late in the planning. We reached out to Uncover just a couple of weeks before our departure and they were able to organize the whole tour in just a few days, and for a more than fair price...

– David, December 2025

We highly recommend!

We had a FANTASTIC experience with Uncover. Nidia and her team organized the most magical 4-day trip to the Colombian Coffee Region. I am Colombian but needed assistance as I wasn’t familiar with the area. We went to the Cocora Valley, Rafting down a river, had a fabulous coffee farm experience and even visited a cacao farm where we got to make artisan chocolate. We traveled with our school aged children...

Amazing tour with Uncover Colombia - San Agustin, Tierradentro and Tatacoa

My mother and I did a 5-day trip to San Agustin, Tierradentro and the Tatacoa dry forest/desert with Uncover Colombia. It was absolutely brilliant. The communication was great and Nidia helped us to ensure that the trip was tailored to our needs and wishes. Our driver, Jesus, and guide, Jorge, were very friendly and Jorge was very knowledgable...

Highly Recommended

Uncover Columbia, specifically Helena (who handled all logistical questions pre-trip) Sergio (our amazing guide) helped make an unforgettable 4 day experience as part of our honeymoon.
